Future Released his Eighth Studio Album, High off Life

Writer's picture: Chatter BoxChatter Box

Future has continued to stay consistent and relevant dropping his eighth studio album, High off Life. He wanted to stay true to his core fans while trying something new with this album.

However, this album is no HNDRXX.

To me, what makes Future,Future, is his unique sound over trap beats. And that's what this album is, typical Future nothing new.

There were a few tracks that stood out which I'll point out during this post but overall, High off Life is nothing special.(or so I thought)

The album is 21 songs and last a total of 1 hour and 10 mins with a total of 10 features.

Track One: Trapped In The Sun

We all wish we could have a yellow lambo outside Future.

This first track got me feeling some Tony Montana type of way. Not saying Futures flow is the same, but you can tell he is feeling like the man on this track.

This was a great intro for the album however what's to follow doesn't live up to the expectation set by this track.

Track Two: HiTek Tek

The beginning of this track will turn anyone up!

Again, another song that Future just goes berserk on which sets up for high expectations to follow.

Chorus is simple, yes, but the beat, and the vibe is what makes this a great follow up track to the intro.

Track Three: Touch The Sky

God damn!

Maybe I spoke to soon. You ever make a disgusted face to a song but because it hits so hard?

Yeah, that's my face right now. Granted this is my second time around on the album, but its hitting harder.

Track Four: Solitaires ft. Travis Scott

Corona Virus diamonds you can catch a cold

Man I really think I wrote the intro to this review too soon. You put Travis and Future on a track together it's a hit.

The way Future flows and when his voice sounds like he's really forcing it...that's the Future I like. He's just showing how into his verses he gets.

Second time around, first four tracks get a thumbs up.

Track Five: Ridin Strickers

Now this was one of my favorite tracks the first time through.

I thought the beat was different then the previous tracks with the guitar mixed in. This may be one of the hardest tracks off the album.

Even when the beat switches up and slows down, Future still finds away to make it flow seamlessly.

Track Six: One Of My

Okay I think this is when the album takes a tumble.

Just a repetitive song that has no drop and nothing stands out. Not even the beat is crazy. Sorry Future, on to the nest one!

Track Seven: Posted With Demons

The vibe to Posted With Demons is a bit slower then the previous songs but still has bounce.

Future talks about his past and his old life before the fame. What makes you connect and feel this song is the auto tune and emotion in Futures voice.

Track Eight: Hard To Choose One

This track is just about doing drugs.

But what future song isn't? LOL

Even the beat is all over the place, but not in a bad way. What stuck out to me was the piano keys in the background. I felt that Future could've attacked this track in multiple ways, speed wise.

Track Nine: Trillionaire ft. Youngboy NBA

I like the back and forth that Future and Youngboy do on this track.

I was also surprised when I saw that YNBA was on this track because I'm not a fan of his. However, he complements Future on this song.

Trillionaire was another one that stood out to me and I instantly vibed to it.

Track Ten: Harlem Shake ft. Young Thug

I didn't really like this track the first time around and I don't like it on round two.

My reasoning is that; one, it sounds like the mix is poor and the quality of the track overall seems to be unfinished and two, Thugger and Future sound off beat like they were on way too much lean.

Track Eleven: Up The River

This track to me has a similar vibe to Posted With Demons.

I'm out my mind everyday I feel like flying

I feel that these types tracks sound like HNDRXX and you can tell, even through these first nine songs where Future is trying new things and where he is staying true for his core fans.

Track Twelve: Pray For A Key

Just a classic Future track!

I was waiting for him to go berserk, as he stated he's been dying too, but he kept up with the steady flow and let the beat lead the way.

Track Thirteen: Too Comfortable

Issa vibe yeah yeah.

I love everything about this track! The beat, Futures flow and the whole vibe of this track. I feel like when he said, "it's time to go berserk" in Pray For A Key, he was talking about the following songs.

Too Comfortable was just the start.

Track Fourteen: All Bad ft. Lil Uzi Vert

This track got me wondering if it was supposed to be on Eternal Atake but Future got Uzi to let him have it for his album.

The beat definitely has an Uzi vibe and he's also very prominent on this track as well. That being said, this track still gets a thumbs up from me.

Track Fifteen: Outer Space Bih

I love how Future follows up a track with Lil Uzi with a song entitled Outer Space Bih. I think this may bring truth to my assumption about the previous track.

Anyway, get ready to roll down your windows and cruise to this one. The vibe is chill, the beat is wavey and Future flows perfectly.

Track Sixteen: Accepting My Flaws

Here we go Future!

This has to be one of my favorite tracks off the entire album. Future goes in and the beat now rides with him. I don't see a flaw in this track!

Pain in my attitude it's vicious and it's lethal

Track Seventeen: Life Is Good ft. Drake

A classic Drake and Future song.

This track reminds me of What A Time To Be Alive, and when I first heard it I as hoping for part two. When you put these two artists on a song together you know it's going to be a hit.

It was the third single for the album and topped the charts at number two, making it Futures highest charting song.

Which was well deserved.

Track Eighteen: Last Name ft. Lil Durk

Last Name is another chill track off this album.

It kind of puts you in your feels a bit but also gives you a street vibe with Lil Durks verse.

I've seen a grown man shed tears because he lost his trial

Track Nineteen: Tycoon

Tycoon was the second single for the album and the video shows what success looks like.

Money, cars, private jets, girls and people trying to take it all away from you. Sometimes life isn't so good for the rich and famous.

Track Twenty: 100 Shooters ft. Meek Mill & Doe Boy

Being the first single for his eighth studio album, Future did a great job making it a banger.

I think this is the hardest track off the album and might even be the best.

Track Twenty-One: Life Is Good Remix ft. Drake, DaBaby & Lil Baby

To close out the album, Future added the Life Is Good Remix probably to get more sales for the track.

In my opinion, he should've ended it with 100 Shooters, but hey I'm not the famous one. I still like the original version of the song more but Futures verse on the remix is 10x better.

High Off Life Final Thoughts

If you've read my previous reviews for, The Saga of Wiz Khalifa and Blame it on Baby, you know I like to close out with my final thoughts.

I'm sticking to the fact that this is no HNDRXX, however I did enjoy it much more the second time around. To me, High Off Life doesn't get a 10 out of 10 because I wouldn't listen to it cover to cover.

It has a great beginning, then falls off in the middle, but closes out really strong. With that, my final grade is an 8.5. If you haven't checked out the album yet, give it a listen and let us know your thoughts.

We at CHATTERBOX love hearing from you and never pass up on a good debate!
