Washington rap duo, Smash Bruvas, have been seeing twenty twenty since they came on the CHATTERBOX podcast and played their track.

During the first episode of Unsigned Artists Chatter, we described the duos sound as Lil Wayne mixed with the Migos. Our advice to them was to take their track, Twenty Twenty, make a dope video and push it hard.

And thats what they did.

We recently had the chance to catch up with them and were able to do a Q&A.

Tell us about yourselves?

"We are the Smash Bruvas, Duo from Washington, DC. Formally known individually as Styme & Kaloiam. Styme Has been creating music for at least 10 years. On the other hand Kaloiam only 5 years. We’ve been a Duo for an year now. Both Styles are similar melody based. Nonetheless they’re versatile and can adapt to anything."

When and why did you start making music?

"Styme started out with Roger Beat. Who’ve produced for Gucci Man & Many More. Lil Bow Wow influenced Styme early on to chase the dream of music. Kaloiam started out with his brother formally known as Hue Fuego. Who passed away a few years back. He influenced Kaloiam to the idea of becoming an Artist."

What was the first song you made?

"Smash Bruvas first song was “South Beach Crazy”. Which caught the attention of listeners in the inner city. Styme first song called “Right Now” was the song that got him the name he earned today. Kaloiam first song was called Critic Killer. Which is under the name King lo. But Kaloiam Big Pimpin Freestyle is what turned heads!"

Do you write lyrics first, or need to hear a beat?

"We most certainly listen to the beats before considering any lyrics."

Who are your musical influences?

"Styme Musical influences are Lil Bow Wow, Drake, Future & Young Thug. Kaloiam Musical Influences are Hue Fuego, Big Sean, Drake, Gunna & Young Thug."

If you could do a collaboration with any artist, who woould it be?

"Styme’s Dream Collaboration would be Drake. Simply because of the Artistry he possesses. Kaloiam Dream Collaboration would be Big Sean, because of his rap capabilities. Smash Bruvas Dream Collaboration would be Gunna, Young Thug, Lil Baby, Drake, Or Future. Why because they’re capable of adapting to smash records!"

Where do you see mucic taking you?/What are you trying to accomplish?

"Music will take the Smash Bruvas to measures a normal human being couldn’t fathom. We want to leave an impact on our fans and the industry through the music we create."

Where is your favorite spot to create music?

"Both Favorite spot to create music is in the house. It’s more comfortable, also less distractions!"

If you could give advice to yourself when you first started making music, what would it be?

"If we can tell ourselves anything it would be. To chase your dreams and believe in yourself so much that people not supporting doesn’t affect you. The Journey isn’t easy, but if you stay consistent you’ll be successful!"

They definitely have been staying consistent! On April 24th, Smash Bruvas released Quarantine Nights, a five song project that shows how versatile the two are.

You can find their music on all streaming platforms and make sure to follow them on all social platforms!
